3DVisA Resources 3DVisA Index of 3D Projects: Dance
Troika Ranch, New York
The Troika Ranch company describes itself as a 'digital dance theater'. Using a variety of sensory devices, video cameras and specialist software,
dancers generate three-dimensional imagery while they perform.
Based in New York since 1994, the company’s performances combine dance, theatre, and interactively generated video imagery. It was funded in 1990 by the choreographer
Dawn Stopiello and composer/media artist Mark Coniglio. They began their multidisciplinary collaboration while students at the California Institute of the Arts in
the mid 1980s. In 1989 Coniglio, a self-taught computer programmer, designed a wireless sensory costume for Stoppiello, called MidiDancer.
More recently, Troika Ranch has developed Isadora® software and integrated it with EyesWeb as part of a twelve-point body overlay, to allow the dancers to
create and manipulate three-dimensional imagery in real time.
Project dates: Ongoing.
