Information about funding: FP7
The European Commission has now launched its Seventh Framework Programme, FP7, which will run from 2007-2013.
The largest area (~28%) funded under Cooperation, or collaborative research, is ICT (Information Communication Technologies).
The first calls for the FP7 ICT Work Programme were released in December 2006 and have deadlines in May 2007.
Many potential projects are now looking for partners. Further calls will be released later in 2007.
The Directorate General Information Society and Media hosted IST 2006 Helsinki in November 2006 with special focus on the ICT Workprogramme.
As a follow-up, its Directorate E: Digital Content and Cognitive Systems, hosted FP7 in Motion,
information days dedicated to Challenge 2 and Challenge 4 (see diagram below).
Dr Julie Tolmie attended both of these events and has compiled the information in these pages to assist in navigating the FP7 ICT Work Programme.
In both the plenaries and workshops of FP7 in Motion, European Commission officials stressed that,
before applying for funding, it is essential for proposers to be aware of, firstly the results of previously funded FP6 projects,
and secondly the objectives and consortia of currently funded FP6 projects, many of which began in the second half of 2006.
The table below juxtaposes the current FP7 ICT Workprogramme with the organisational structure of Directorate General Information Society and Media,
and the previous FP6 funding framework. Links are provided to more detailed information on calls for a number of the challenges within the FP7 Work Programme.
In some of these cases, (see Digital Libraries and Content), links are also provided to FP6 previously and currently funded projects.
